When I was painting this piece I wasn’t really thinking about reaching my goals. I honestly was thinking, “This is a cool idea, I wonder if I can create it?”

This is very different from many of my other pieces – the sun bleached surroundings required several lite washes while the mix of pale yellows, pinks, and purples was a completely foreign palette.

When complete, I was contemplating the title and “Reach For the Stars” was just so obvious to me.  Primarily because it’s silly.

“It is not enough to wish on stars, you have to reach for them”

These trite sayings – I love and hate them.

The meaning of the idiom, “reach for the stars” is to set one’s goals or ambitions very high; to try to attain or achieve something particularly difficult.

Over my years I’ve come to the realization that most of the things I thought were difficult or impossible really weren’t.  What made them feel impossible was my limiting beliefs. The old, “not good enough” thoughts that whisper to me.  Sometimes, like this painting it’s just a matter of giving something new a try.

Sometimes you can find your stars on the ground – you just need to pick it up.
