This is the first piece that I’ve ever taken the time to recreate.

A few years back I spent a couple of hours tinkering with this design in watercolor. This was an early attempt and although it was fine for what it was… it wasn’t ‘polished’ by any means.  At the time, I called the painting “Isolation” – I guess I was feeling isolated and the concept suited my mood.

But, I love the composition and wanted to give it another go.  This time around I’m feeling more optimistic and this acrylic work is called “Thrive.”

Sure, the sunflower is maturing. The plant is putting all its effort into the seeds now and the head is turning toward the ground. If left alone, these seeds will scatter and sprout into new plants in the coming spring while some will afford sustenance to birds and rodents through the lean months. It’s the normal cycle of things.

That one sunflower may not be as beautiful as it once was but it is a bounty to a sparrow. This piece is a reminder to be thankful for the small things that make my life comfortable and help me grow and thrive.
